NESTING
EXCITING NEWS:
Until now, no one has been able to find or describe an active nest of the Bare-necked Umbrellabird with an egg or chick that survived more than a few days.
The long-term study by UCAN of the female Bare-necked Umbrellabird and her nesting/brooding ecology has revealed many previously undocumented behaviors of both the female and the chick that were unknown to science. Over two thousand hours of field observations—in conjunction with high-definition video/photography, leg banding, and satellite telemetry—have enabled us to compile many years of valuable data critical to the conservation and survival of this secretive species.
New Science Incoming
UCAN researchers are presently preparing mountains of “new-to-science” data and will soon be publishing their results. Once these papers are finalized, we will be filling the Female and Chick pages of our website with lots of interesting information, as well as beautiful photos and videos.
Support Our Mission
In the field, research of this species takes hard work, endurance, and steady funding. The sole purpose of UCAN is the conservation and protection of this incredibly rare and severely endangered species.
Please check out our How You Can Help page for more information on how you can adopt an Umbrellabird and help with our extremely difficult but incredibly important work.
